For my final project, I will be using some unfinished footage from a previous class with mostly new rotoscoping and 3D animation to illustrate an experimental narrative with a focus around the theme of "art". The main character is a person, roughly inked in black and white, who comes to life in a world of paper. Upon some exploration his world is shaken up when colors and hues of all kinds rain from the sky, exploding on the geometry around him. Frightened, he frantically runs searching for safety. He begins to climb a set of stairs that extend for floors and floors above him. When it feels like he can't go any further he reaches the window of the real world, but as he screams for help and tries to escape, the stairs disappear and he plummets for what seems to be an eternity, eventually landing in a class of water and dissolving back into ink.
For the character, I am rotoscoping over footage of my roommate acting out the different shots I planned out, and for the backgrounds, I am roughly matching 3D geometry with Maya to show the world in a different way from the main character. In aftereffects, I will need to utilize the brush tool to rotoscope every 2 frames, and the motion tracker to match the motion of the original camera movement with the new backgrounds I will be creating. All of the final editing will be done in final cut pro. To pull all the elements together, I will most likely be scoring the film as well with garageband.
